David Hodgson

Dip Finance (FARSTA)     CEO, Founder, and Executive Director of Paladin Group


David is the CEO and Managing Director of the Paladin Group and is a Financial Engineer who has speicalised in designing, commissioning, and managing boutique investment products for wholesale and retail Funds and for Investors in Australia and around the world for the last 16 years.

In 2001 David incorporated a finance origination company. Since that date he has been responsible for the origination of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of commercial and residential finance for Paladin Corporation and its clients. In 2003 David advanced into the more specialised field of financial engineering with the assembly of investment syndicates into property development trusts. As these grew into a pool of over $50 million in gross realisation worth of property development projects, David oversaw the incorporation of the Paladin Group of companies which included the two public companies Paladin Acquisition Fund and Paladin Property Fund. By the end of 2006 the Paladin Group consisted of 23 companies and trusts with over $100 million worth of business acquisitions and property development under its control, and by 2011 the Group had doubled to over $200 million.  By mid-2017 the gross value of the Paladin Croup was in excess of $800 million.

Since the incorporation of Paladin, David has remained as the CEO and Managing Director and has developed the sophisticated and lucrative investment products which Paladin is well known for. David has been directly responsible for the tightly held Paladin Acquisition Fund Shares which have paid investors an uninterrupted return of 1.46% per month since 2005.

David's ability to innovate and pioneer risk management strategies, his solid management techniques, intimate customer service levels, and absolute integrity have been the driving forces behind his success.

Dave is a sought after speaker at business conferences and economic summits around Australia, Overseas, and on the media, and has lectured at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, and CHC College in Brisbane.  During 2017 David completed 78 lectures internationally and within Australia.

Merlene Hodgson

Exec Dip Pitman      Finance and Administration Manager Paladin Corporation

Merlene Hodgson graduated from Drake Secretarial College in Johannesburg South Africa in 1983 with an Advanced Executive Secretarial Diploma examined by Pitman of London. Merlene has had extensive experience in a variety of industries in Australia and overseas. She has worked in casinos, hotels, schools, engineering and finance companies. She is responsible for the development of accounting and operational systems and procedures pertaining to the Paladin Group and oversees the financial management, organisation, training and administration of the Group.

Merlene is also the Managing Director of Paladin's Fernwood Women’s Health Club and Day Spa located in Woden ACT where she manages 40+ staff and oversees the running of the club in all areas including: Occupational Health and Safety, Training, Compliance, Policy and Legislation, Reporting and Evaluation, Sales, Marketing, and Budgeting for Club and Day Spa. Fernwood Woden recently moved from Westfield into new premises and Merlene managed the $250,000 design and fit-out of the new club which has been critically acclaimed as setting a new standard in women’s health clubs in Canberra.

Trevor Thompson

CA (MFAA) Dip Finance        Credit Analyst and Assessor

Trevor has worked in the Banking and Finance industry since joining Westpac Bank in 1978. He worked his way through many levels of Banking to Senior Assistant where he provided legal advice to the bank’s branch network on matters relating to lending and mortgagee sales.

In 2002 he moved to Aussie Home Loans firstly as a Loans Assessor and subsequently as Credit Coach training new mortgage brokers in home mortgage lending.

In 2006 he moved to Investor Finance again training new mortgage brokers and later that same year accepted a position with LoanTrack as a Home Loan Assessor.

Trevor joined Paladin Corporation early in 2010.  He is a fully qualifed Credit Advisor with MFAA and is accredted with scores of banks and non bank lenders.  Trevor applies his substantial lending background and knowledge to help clients to obtain finance for residential, investment, and commercial purposes.
